- What did you find most unexpected or surprising about the process of composing Writing Project #1? Why do you think this was unexpected or surprising? What does this tell you about your previous notions of the writing process?
- What did you find most challenging, confusing, or frustrating about the process of composing Writing Project #1? How might this become less challenging, confusing, or frustrating in future projects?
- What—for you—seems to be the most critical or important part of the writing process at this point? Where do you feel you learned the most about your own writing process? Was it before you wrote the project, while you were writing the sentences and paragraphs, or was it in the post-writing revision practices?
- If you were invited to teach someone else something about writing tomorrow, what would it be and why?
- Why do you think the WPA Outcomes (under “Processes”) and this course seem to value reflection and reflective writing?
If I had to say I found anything unexpected or surprising about composing Writing Project #1, I found it surprising I had to rewrite my essay so many times. This thing was really difficult for me to write, but even more surprising I was actually happy about it. I think being happy about your writing is part of the writing process.
The whole process was challenging, confusing, and frustrating, perhaps it may become less challenging once I have better vision of what I want to write. This was on of the major hurdles I had with this project was deciding on the actual subject, and what direction I should take the paper.
One of the most important and critical points of the writing process, I felt , was when I really explored "who I was" with this writing. In turn the writing was also an extension of who I am. I don't think I was ever able to capture as well as I did here.
If I were invited to teach someone else about writing, I would teach them to "know your subject", and know what your end goal of the piece is supposed to be. Are you trying to leave behind a certain emotion?
I think the WPA Outcomes and this course value reflection and reflective writing because that is who we are, and who we are is how we write. It's the reason for so much writing and why it's important. Writing is about people sharing themselves with other people.
